Landscaping

Whether you're adding a few new plants or planning a more involved landscape renovation, it's important to understand what improvements are allowed under the Las Campanas Guidelines and Restrictions. Here are a few helpful tips to keep in mind:

Know Your Zones!

Each lot in Las Campanas is divided into three zones: the Developable Area (DA), the Transitional Zone, and the Natural Zone. The approved plant lists can help you choose waterwise options that will allow your landscaping to thrive.

  • Developable Area (DA): This area is defined on your ILR. In addition to the home, hardscape improvements such as courtyards, paths, and landscape walls can be installed, and more manicured plantings are also allowed within the DA.
  • Transitional Zone: This zone is roughly a 30’ boundary around the home that provides a gradual shift between formal landscaping and the surrounding natural areas. Native and low-water plants are encouraged here, with minimal irrigation.
  • Natural Zone: These areas feature native plants, trees, and grasses that support the open view corridors and the rural character of the community.

No matter the zone, the emphasis is on low-water, sustainable plantings that minimize the need for extensive irrigation. Our pre-approved plant lists were created by landscape professionals who understand which plants are most likely to thrive when placed in the right microclimate. If you’re unsure about which plants are allowed, where they should be planted, or need help identifying your zone boundaries, don’t hesitate to reach out to the LCMA Design Review Team. They’re always happy to help!

Please note: Any significant landscape changes require DRC review and approval. Requirements and zone structure may differ for the higher-density estates. Be sure to consult the guidelines or contact the Design Review Team for clarification.
